Non-clinical reminders

A gentle reminder, at the right time.

Non-clinical reminders and appropriate help with self-administered medication, when permitted and included in the care plan.

About Medication Reminders

Some clients benefit from a reminder as part of their daily routine. Caregivers may provide non-clinical reminders and appropriate assistance with self-administered medication when permitted and included in the care plan.

Caregivers do not prescribe medication, determine doses, diagnose conditions, or make medical decisions. Those responsibilities remain with the appropriate licensed healthcare professionals.

What this can include

  • Reminders at the times set in the care plan
  • Appropriate assistance with self-administered medication
  • Keeping the routine consistent day to day
  • Noting if a reminder was declined or missed
  • Communicating concerns through agency channels
  • Working alongside directions from licensed professionals

Specific tasks are based on the individual care plan and what the agency is equipped and authorized to provide.

Our approach

Clear about what we do, and what we don’t

Medication reminders fit into the broader daily routine, alongside meals, personal care, and companionship.

If a caregiver notices something different, such as a missed reminder, it is documented and communicated according to the care plan and agency procedures.

The Lewis Standard

How the Standard shows up in medication reminders

  1. NOTICE

The client’s daily routine around reminders.

  2. COMMUNICATE

Missed or declined reminders, through proper channels.

  3. ANTICIPATE

Changes that may call for a conversation.

  4. ACT

Stay within the non-medical role and care plan.

Non-medical by design. Caregivers do not diagnose conditions, provide skilled nursing, or make medical decisions. They observe, document, and communicate through the proper channels.
